OSReferee Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 24, 2026

OSReferee on iPhone and iPad and OSTools on Mac are versions of the same local-first referee and campaign product. This policy explains what data they handle, where that data is stored, and what is shared with the developer.

Short version: OSReferee and OSTools do not include third-party advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, cross-app tracking, or a developer-operated database. Campaign data is stored locally and in your private Apple CloudKit account for automatic device-to-device synchronization. Connected player access uses campaign-specific CloudKit shares that you control.

Data You Create In The App

OSReferee lets you create and edit campaign records, including regions, adventures, hexes, settlements, encounters, factions, religions, player characters, retainers, NPCs, treasures, notes, combat state, and related images or portraits you choose to add.

This data is stored locally on your device. OSReferee and OSTools also synchronize the campaign library through your private Apple CloudKit account so the same regions are available across your devices. The first migration creates a local recovery backup before uploading existing data.

Photos And Images

If you choose artwork or portraits through the system photo picker, OSReferee receives the image you selected. The app does not receive access to your full photo library. Selected images may be stored with your campaign data and included in backups or iCloud backups if you use those features.

Imports, Exports, And Backups

OSReferee can export campaign backup files and can import supported OSReferee and OSCharacter files. Exported files are created only when you request them or when you enable app backup behavior. When you share, move, or store an exported file, the selected destination controls what happens to that file after it leaves OSReferee.

iCloud And Connected Campaigns

Private campaign-library synchronization and connected campaigns use Apple's iCloud and CloudKit services. OSReferee and OSTools may create private campaign records, active-session records, player invitation shares, submitted character records, reward records, and activity history. Invitation links contain Apple CloudKit share links and expire according to the settings shown by the referee.

For each player invitation, the referee app creates a read-only player area and a separate write-enabled submission area. Players cannot directly edit the referee's authoritative campaign records. The referee can revoke invitations or remove connected data from the app. Separate local regions and recovery backups remain unless the referee deletes them explicitly.

Purchases

Purchases are handled through Apple's StoreKit and App Store systems. The one-time OSReferee Premium purchase unlocks the same unlimited local limits in OSReferee and OSTools for Mac through Apple's Universal Purchase. OSTools Pro is a separate monthly subscription that unlocks connected campaign tools in both versions. Apple processes purchases, refunds, and payment information; the developer does not receive your payment card details from the apps.

Data Collected By The Developer

Apple And System Services

Apple may process data through App Store purchases, iCloud, crash reporting, TestFlight, or other Apple services according to Apple's own policies and your device settings.

Children's Privacy

OSReferee is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children through developer-operated services. Because the app stores user-created content locally and through optional iCloud backup, parents or guardians should manage device, App Store, and iCloud settings for younger users.
